Welcome to the Two Over One Game Force system for uncontested auctions. This overview covers the rules for opening bids, responder actions, and opener rebids when opponents pass throughout.
When responder bids a new suit at the two level as an unpassed hand in an uncontested auction, that bid promises game values and commits the partnership to reach at least game.
- Point Count: Adjusted points include high card points (Ace 4, King 3, Queen 2, Jack 1), length points for suits beyond four when opening, and minus one point for any singleton or doubleton holding an unprotected Queen or Jack (cancelled if accompanied by an Ace or King in that short suit). After a trump fit is agreed, switch to shortness instead of length: void 5, singleton 3, doubleton 1.
- Opening Thresholds: Always open on 12+ adjusted points or 11 adjusted points (unless shape is 4-3-3-3). On 10 HCP or fewer, open if the Rule of 20 (HCP + two longest suit lengths) equals 20.
- Opening Bids:
- 1♥ or 1♠ shows 5+ cards and up to 21 adjusted points.
- 1♣ or 1♦ denies a 5-card major (open longer minor, or 1♦ on 4-4 minors, or 1♣ on 3-3 minors).
- 1NT shows a balanced hand with 15–17 adjusted points (no singletons or voids).
- 2NT shows 20–21 adjusted points balanced.
- 2♣ is artificial, forcing, showing 22+ balanced or 9+ playing tricks.
- Weak twos (2♦, 2♥, 2♠) show 5–10 points with a good 6-card suit and no side 4-card major (do not count length in the bid suit).
- Responding: Two-level responses by unpassed hands require 12+ points and promise a 5-card suit (except 2♣ over a major). If you hold 5–6 points with 3+ trumps over a major, bid 1NT to sign off later. Use 1NT (semi-forcing) on 6–11 points without a fit.
